Spring Cleaning Some Not-So-Perfect Leather Goods

TIME FOR A SPRING CLEAN, OR SO SAYS FATS WALLER

If you'd said to us at the start of the year that we'd have to shut the shop for 3 or 4 months and that no one would be allowed to leave their houses unless absolutely 'essential', I'm sure, at the very least, we'd have given you a very strange look... But, here we are. It's almost Spring (sorta) and the way things are going in old Melbourne town it looks like it'll be those new buds that greet us as we collectively emerge from our isolation slumber.

So what better time for a bit of a 'Spring Clean'? After a bit of time staring at the walls we realised we have a few not-so-perfect leather goods which might like a new and exciting home. We have gathered a collection of bags and sleeves made using a heavier vegetable-tanned leather that we are no longer using in production. Some of the items have little fade marks (noted in the item description) and some of them are in great condition apart from the fact that we're no longer using the firmer leather.

So, it dawned on us: why not offer these goods at reduced pricing in the hopes of seeing them go to a good and happy home?

Please see the list of goods via the blog post here: http://wootten.com.au/spring-clean-special-offer/

Please note: There is only one of each item in stock and all sales are final. These items will be sold on a first in best dressed basis.

GETTING DOWN AND DIRTY RESTORING OUR 1860s MINER'S COTTAGE

We promised to keep you updated on what we are getting up to at home with the extra time on our hands.

Back in March we had already begun demolition work on our wee 1860s miner's cottage. She was a bit wonky, a bit breezy, a bit of oh so many things.

As we pulled away her facade of plaster and lining boards, we were met with poorly insulated walls, non-structural timber framing for the extensions, a handful of rat carcasses and the one silver lining, the original timber shingles. The process since then that we are getting our hands dirty with is a full restump, repouring a new concrete slab to lay bricks over, rebuilding the extensions and staightenting the old framing with new structural timber, repairing and reproducing the original windows, reinsulating and reroofing. Suffice to say, there's enough to keep us busy here for a while.

Below are some images of the stages we've gone through in the midst of a very cold winter. At least the animals appear to be enjoying the mess.

Follow us @wootten_ on Instagram if you're interested in seeing what we're up to. Otherwise we'll send through the highlights in our next email.

SHOP HOURS & WHERE YOU CAN REACH US

We had reopend in June after the lockdown in Melbourne was eased, but have since shut the shop in Richmond again (until further notice) with the surge in cases recently.

We are still completing orders as they come in from our Ballarat workshop, so please be patient if you try to call or email as we are balancing building (inbetween rain storms) and the trickling workflow. We will get back to you, but are just not always in the workshop at present. Get in touch if you have any queries via our email address workshop@wootten.com.au.

In the meantime, thank you to everyone who has shown us such wonderful support with online purchases and queries. You guys are the best.

Jess & Krystina
