None of this is a knock against smartwatches. It’s a trade: capability for dependency. A runner doing intervals in a city park has no reason to make that trade the other way. Someone spending four days on a mountain has several.
This isn’t a new debate, either. We’ve written before about whether the smartphone era has damaged the watch industry, and the answer holds here too: removing power, interface and electronic dependencies is sometimes the advantage, not the compromise, once you’re properly away from all three.
