Let’s be direct. The price gap exists because of what’s actually inside the case. Standard lume is paint applied to dial markers during production. Tritium is something else entirely. Each illuminated marker contains a sealed Gaseous Tritium Light Source, a precision glass tube filled with tritium gas and lined with phosphor. Getting those tubes manufactured to wristwatch tolerances, sealed correctly, and integrated without compromising water resistance takes real engineering. You can’t cut corners on it and still have something worth wearing.
The premium isn’t just for the glow.
When the whole watch is built to match the illumination system, you stop worrying about weak links. Case, sealing, crystal, and movement all have to be at the same level.
The right question isn’t ‘what am I paying for the glow?’
It’s ‘what am I paying for a watch that deserves the glow?’
