Sta-Lok Endurance Test saw Race Crew take on the 3,400nm journey from Fremantle to Airlie Beach, Australia. After leaving Fremantle, teams headed east, tackling the challenging swell before rounding Tasmania and negotiating the often-tricky Bass Strait.
North Queensland including Airlie Beach had experienced a developing tropical storm, causing torrential rain, poor visibility and gale force wind with big squalls. Due to growing concern that this would impact the safety of the yachts and the imminent Race Finish, Race Director, Dale Smyth, concluded that for the safety of the fleet and its Race Crew, Virtual Mark Kulow would be used as the Finish Line for Stage 5.
