The other day we realised that it's very possible we are the second largest welted footwear producer in the country... how, in god's name could that be the case?
Imagine, there is one factory left. Making something like 500,000 or even up to 750,000 pairs a year. And then there's fresh air, a lot of fresh air, and then there's us. Making every year what the next lot make by lunchtime every day...
Don't get us wrong, they're probably the most important part of the footwear industry in Australia; they employ a lot of dedicated folks. But we can't help but think about all that fresh air that once was occupied by a myriad of others.
So. We went ahead and did this...
We think we need to have a bit of fun with it. If we don't, we might just realise how far the industry has fallen in the past 40 years.
For those of you playing at home, R.D WOOTTEN is Jess' dad, Ross David Wootten. He started this bootmaking caper in our family and was a lovely chap and we think he'd have gotten a laugh out of this.
At the very least, it made us giggle.
For those wondering, the coasters might be a diversion...
