Welcome to Issue No. 1 of the Industry West Newsletter | | Each month we'll provide you with some of the latest insights, trends, and news from across the design world as collected not only by our writers but also by the travels of Anne and me as we explore trends and chat with designers from around the world. Anne and I founded Industry West in 2009 with the goal of scouring the world for the best materials, the most skilled makers, and unique inspirations. | | Most recently those travels took us to Milan's Salone del Mobile and New York City's ICFF where we witnessed a post-COVID evolution of natural materials and heterogeneous designs that is opening the door to a mixing of trends in a way we've not previously experienced. Designers are pushing the boundaries of utilizing real materials and color while also seemingly making up for lost time during our collective international lockdowns, almost as if designers took the last five years and brought a number of mismatched trends together as a broad attack against a past focus on minimalism. | | The furniture of Salone del Mobile and ICFF can be seen as the concept cars that, once in your garage, look nothing like what they did on stage. While cane-braided sofas may never be widely popular with customers, there are elements we can incorporate into what people want in their homes. And that was probably our biggest takeaway from the spring shows: The trend of sculptural furniture has reached a point where organic sustainability and sculptural pieces are blending together to the extent that all products have some artistic nature to them.
We're excited to see what the future brings and how Industry West can continue to push the envelope in bringing these trends to our loyal customer base. | | Until next time, Jordan & Anne England, Co-founders | | We enlisted top designers to give us their best tips on furnishing every space—from commercial rentals to residential rooms. | | | | |
