The Bright Lights at Salone Internazionale del Mobile I Part Two

Part Two - The Bright Lights of Salone Internaztionale del Mobile.

We hit Milan's hottest design precincts to bring you the best lighting finds from this years Salone del Mobile! Even though it may not have been a EuroLuce year, the world of lighting took Salone del Mobile by storm last month.

From Lasvit's exhibit monsters winning the prestigious Milano Design Award at Salone del Mobile to Bethan Gray's multiculturalism-inspired pendant lights, lighting was definitely under the 'spotlight' in Milan.

Lasvit put on a monstrous performance.
 

Exhibiting the new Lasvit Monster Collection in Milan, Lasvit mark an important new chapter for the brand. From Lasvit founder Leon Jakimi and creative design strategist Stephan Hamel, the collection comprises a family of 'monsters' – from the cheekily sex toy-inspired 'Toyboy' referencing da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, all the way through to Maarten Baas' doodle-inspired cut-glass creatures that appear to have jumped right out of a toddler's scribblings – that will continue to be updated every year as new collaborators expand the collection.

Glass monsters invade Milanese theatre for Lasvits Monster Cabaret exhibition.

Rombo, by Alessandro Mendini. Mendini chose to design friendly monsters, made of hand-blown glass using an iron mould.
LASVIT's Monster Cabaret outshined more than 1500 exhibitions in the city of design and won the prestigious Milano Design Award. The award in the main category rewards the installation that best interprets a contemporary design and a future conceptual vision.

'BHSD', by Maarten Baas. Based on a childish doodle, Baas' cast-glass creatures are inspired by the imaginary fossils of small beasts. 
A highlight of Kosmos was stop-motion film Invisible Cities by artistic duo J&PEG. Celebrating the utopian vision of the city and the role of glass within architecture and urban environments.

The Wonderglass world expands and displays its real DNA made essentially of glass.



Perceived as a leader in lighting innovation, Wonderglass decided to showcase other developing areas in the brand's portfolio. Taking the expertise in lighting and glass manipulation, the brand teamed up with the Bouroullec brothers to launch Alcova: Wonderglass' latest experiments with molding molten glass.

Through the Clouds, Fornasetti - "Through the Clouds", designed by iconic Italian decorative Atelier Fornasetti for WonderGlass, takes inspiration from a daydream.

Through the Clouds, Fornasetti - "Through the Clouds", designed by iconic Italian decorative Atelier Fornasetti for WonderGlass, takes inspiration from a daydream.
Designed by the internationally renowned French duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, "Alcova", is a collection of handcrafted geometric objects that can sit alone or be grouped to create intimate landscapes.
 

Established & Sons cut a radiant figure. 

 

With Sebastian Wrong, Established & Sons released a new collection of furniture and luminaires expertly curated with some of the biggest names in contemporary design. Including Dimitri Bahler's Light Light and Wrong's Filligrana Light.

Bethan Gray teams up with Editions Milano to create a delicate marble light collection.

In addition to Gray's widely-acclaimed furniture designs launched at Salone this year, a selection of innovative pendant lights from the studio inspired by the twelfth-century Siena Cathedral.

Its a Hoorah from Horah! 

 

Inspired by the Israeli dance of the Horah, this latest collection of lighting by Raw Edges took the idea of repetition and theme – central elements to the art of dance. Collaborating with Wonderglass on the Horah's unique glass manipulation, this collection of sculptural lights spin gently so that the luminosity cast is always in motion.

Latest Flos offering sheds light on the transformative power of design.


Collaborating with Michael Anastassiades on 'Arrangements' – their immersive light installation for the exhibition VIP area – Flos showcased evolving LED technologies in lighting design with a collection of graphic and geometric chandeliers.

 "Arrangements" Is a modular system of light elements that could be combined in different ways, creating multiple compositions into individual chandeliers. Each unit simply attaches geometric onto the previous one as if resting, balancing perfectly as part of a growing chain.
