The last six months have been some kind of blur, there seems to have been new things coming out at every turn. We've certainly seen a lot of new faces coming in the door and a whole new energy around the workshop. It really has been an exciting time. There's a LOT of new things in the pipeline, and as it turns out, we are people who think far too much about why we do what we do... but more (a LOT more) on this later...
In the meantime, designing and making meaningful, durable and enduring things happen, is what gives us purpose. We're bootmakers, winemakers, builders and parents (oh and leathercraftspeople), but fundamentally we're here to make the world a better place.
Is a shoe or a bag really going to change the world, you might ask? On it's own, probably not. But, by surrounding it with a whole ecosystem of raw material suppliers, community and customers, we believe they might actually be able to...
So, how about those new things?
Firstly introducing the Smith Work Boot.
It has been made on a new last, which we've called Milton, after Jess' grandfather, Milton Cameron. Which makes sense, given Milton is the same toe profile and fitting as the Cameron. However the Milton last allows for 3mm of padding on the inside that can be removed to allow you to alter the boots fitting by half to a full size. This is super handy if you want to wear a thicker sock, if you wear a mild orthotic, or if you like a little wiggle room to your fitting.
Stylistically, the Smith Work Boot is intended to be a more rugged take on our Jack and Jill Gusset. It's gussets are slightly lower cut and the topline is curved, couple this with a more generous fit and a rounded toe and you have a more casual/workboot aesthetic. The Smith is intended to be unisex.
With the new style, we've introduced a new sole - the Vibram Tuscany. The Tuscany is a lower profile lugged sole. It has the same "Commando" tread pattern as Itshide but won't clog up in muddy conditions, due to the lower lug depth. We've added an extra midsole to maintain the chunky sole proportions to balance the upper and sole weights aesthetically as well as offer some insulation from uneven terrain.
The Smith Work Boot | from $980
