BlueBolder: Benny Smith Keeps It Simple

JANUARY 2ND, 2026

Benny Smith is the rare skier who can stomp a massive Alaskan line in the morning and then show up the next day at the job site ready to swing a hammer.

Raised in Vermont, he ventured west to ski big mountains with a smooth, no-drama style that makes terrifying terrain look casual. We caught up with Benny to see what he's got on tap this season.

How are you spending your time this winter?

This winter, I will be keeping it pretty local to Montana as I have a baby boy joining us in February. So hopefully just skiing some pow around here and then ideally heading to Canada in March to film a brand battle video with newschoolers. When I'm not skiing, I'm usually on the job site hammering nails. Hopefully inside most of the winter, but I do have a full exterior scheduled for February, so that might be cold.

Where are you skiing this year?

You can usually catch me at Bridger or Big Sky. Otherwise, I usually try to do some trips on the sled to some zones around Wyoming and Idaho.

What are you skiing on? (Daily Drivers)

I've been riding the RMU Professor 111. Very fun ski from pow to park and everything in between.

What are you into lately?

I've been really into resort skiing so far this year. I've been so focused on film parts for so many years that any time I clicked on skis, it was usually to do something scary. It's been nice to ski the resort, warm up, and enjoy more time actually skiing.

What's your skiing hot take?

Hmm that's tough. I see a lot of things in skiing that I'm super hyped on, and other things that bum me out. I guess the huck and pray trend I think is pretty wack. I don't really enjoy seeing these viral clips of people just hucking for some views with zero hopes of landing.

I've been watching the Broncos win a lot of football games, and I usually have a lot of YouTube playing. Mostly surf videos or hunting videos. I like that show, Landman, so I've been watching that on Sundays.
