BD Barcelona has always been an atypical brand; focused on cultivating beauty, in some cases, above function. Characterised by superior quality, short-series productions, and artisanal manufacturing, BD designs often have more proximity to art than industrial design. Fusing the worlds of design and fine art might not seem straight-forward to some, but to Spanish born designer Jaime Hayon it's second nature. "I'm this meticulous guy on one hand; and on the other I'm someone super bizarre whom nobody understands," explains Hayon. "For an exhibition I'll do a green chicken rocking chair with a supersonic nose. People may argue, 'what the hell is that? That's not a chair," he continues, referencing one of his early creations. "But it doesn't matter, because it's in this sort of hybridity where innovation lives." We hope you enjoy our "love of design" discussion with whimsical artist/designer Jaime Hayon. |
