Another classic joins the Living Edge range.
Designed by George Nelson in 1952, the elegant Bubble Lamps are fashioned from a sturdy, lightweight steel frame yet have a delicate, floating quality. Nelson was inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish hanging lamps that he wanted to acquire for his office, but he found the price to be prohibitive. An ingenious and resourceful designer, he went on to create the first set of Nelson Bubble Lamps using a translucent white plastic spray, a technique developed by the U.S. military at the time. The range of Bubble Lamps are now in store and available for viewing at Living Edge. | | | More classics by George Nelson | | | Meet The Designer: George Nelson | George Nelson is credited as being one of the founding fathers of American Modernism. He trained as an architect, but became a master of several design disciplines through his career, long before interdisciplinary was a recognised term. In 1952 George Nelson's vision for Herman Miller included "a permanent collection designed to meet fully the requirements for modern living." Now called the 'The Collection', his concept has evolved into a comprehensive catalogue of timeless pieces that's as much at home in the 21st century as it was when George Nelson described it.
